"SO you're into cults?"
hehee, well, there were the times that I was a big fan of an artist/group who then became popular and I didn't wanna be just another fan, so I lost interest! Liz Phair is moving that way with her new Avril-pop image. She's still a darn sight better than most other artists, though.
I wouldn't be in the Johnny Winter cult, though. That was a passing guitarhero fancy and I only had one album!
I'd guess that most of my "cult faves" aren't around anymore or just aren't doing much. I was just thinking about this the other day, actually - hahaha! - I was wondering what one of of my faves, Sleater-Kinney, is up to these days. If you're not familiar you can grab a few of their mp3s here: Sleater-Kinney ("All Hands On The Bad One" is a fun mp3). The lead guitarist, Carrie Brownstein , is amazing. Grreat grrl-rockers!

So did you have fringe/cult faves that other folks hadn't heard of, Chris? (y'know they give ya a blank stare - "who?" when you mention the artist/group,lol)

hahahaa, I guess you are a "popbabe"!
There's a whole lotta groups that I've heard of, but never heard. I think I might recognize Linkin Park's sound, tho, I think they've had a hit that has had a lot of airplay.
The interesting thing about Madonna is that she has had so many incarnations that maybe everyone might like at least one of them! You have a particular preference that way (for a Madonna persona/era)or no? Kinda like how some people like early Beatles/don't care for later Beatles or vice versa?
I have a tape with excerpts from a talk show in the late 60s where Janis Joplin was asked by the host (Dick Cavett) who she liked as a performer. She said "Ike & Tina Turner", adding that "Tina's the show". The host, like most everybody back then, had no idea who Tina Turner was!
