I can understand why the word 'competition' isn't so cool. I don't like them myself - the idea of 'losing' isn't nice yet TOL are entering one
Competitions are also character building stuff. Did you know that Abraham Lincoln failed in business at 21, was defeated in legislative race at 22, failed again in business at 24, lost congressional race at 34, lost again at 36, lost again at 45, failed in an effort to become vice-president at 47, lost a senatorial race at age 49 and was elected president of the US at age 52? Could he have become such a great man without failure?
The great thing about this Cantonese competition was that the whole concept came from members who post on this board. Managed to get radio airplay (albeit in Hong Kong!) for The Wailing Hobos, Larree, PANick and Paul (ED1G aka Business as Usual) and a little publicity for great musicians.
Hey I just suddenly thought; does anyone want to write a formal press release for it? We can send it to Musicdish to coincide with me going on the radio (yet again) timing it with me & the mirror posting all over the Internet?
Just an idea.

Competition CAN be good...
Really... So long as the sparring partners like each other, and can be happy for the other who wins the match.
Anyhoo - that sounded stupid.
I'm going to bed.
G'nite.
zzzzzzzzzzz..........

Quote: When reading this thread I have to say again, that I usually never participate in any music "competition", or let's say I always made bad experiences with it.
I'm happy to enter live music competitions - in fact I have and won almost every time, through school and college. But I had one very very bad online experience in which I discovered the organiser had been personally promoting the girls who won (I came third, from a winning position). Also the deadlines kept being moved, and the rules kept changing. It was a nightmare.
I have vowed to never enter an online competition unless there are independent judges whose opinion I respect, and I can be certain that the process is audited.
Based on my last experience and what I've seen so far, most online (and offline) competitions are PR exercises for the people organising them. This is not to say it is a bad thing, but like I said, I'd need to satisfy myself that I respect the judges and the process.

Chris, if it helps, I'll try my hand at the press release.
No guarantees about the outcome - I don't consider myself a writer by any means.... - but if it helps, I'll give it a shot..
And of course you'd be free to edit, extract excerpts, or simply not use it....
How many words, (approximately)?, and what's the time frame?
