now I can tell without any doubt YES

for many reasons

many real press magazines will pay attention to a legal physical release, specially if nicely packaged, i've been four years in the net and i've had access now to sites that never payed attention before

I also have sea yes definetly yes...
i've seen my music is moving in unexpected places that are not related with my traffic, omds, and so forth

the other day some russian people had delivered 1800 pirate copies of my cd that's the bad thing too but anyway... you probably won't earn a life from it, but IT REALLY worths as a promotional step, and my advice it, do it as professionally and nicely looking and sounding as possible.

I would say yes too just wanted to question that the overall sales of CDs have fallen every year (I want to be prepared for the future)

well, yes, noone sell millions anymore, that's a fact
still for indies out number have always been humble, and means for example to reach areas we couldn't reach before...
the biggest problem is piracy, once you get a "official" cd out there, it happens, russians, italians and spanish mostly... they rip it and offer it on stream, or even selly with a crappy bootleg and printed cover...
There are more copies of my cd out there illegally than being sold, and for a small one that means a lot... still it's bringing a little popularity so it's not bad at all
music industry is changing and is all so complicated
I thought in Midem was going to be a big thing getting contacts, had a friend presenting the product
the main idea i got was
if you have money to do all the things, we take the risk

i think we indies still have to work a lot on ourselves to step ahead
but while the cd is vanishing and dissapearing and it will be, i just can think about making something that goes beyond the cd itself, a book-cd, include some merchadinsing, posters, something that makes teh physical thing worth to be collected

cd music industry is dead, but avid collectors of all sort of things are still there...
it's sort of product designing

I don't download music much. I buy CD's.

Most recent purchase was Lucinda Williams- WEST.

Bought it the day it was released.

Just had a few conversations this week and am really wondering if it's a good idea to come out with a "CD Compilation"

I was told DVD would still sell but when it comes to music, so many people are used to buying or downloading online and that even your big music shops sell far more DVDs than CDs these days....

So my questions is

1. Do YOU still buy CDs? Why? ANy special criteria?
2. If you do when and waht was the last CD you bought?
3. Do you buy CDs and buy downloads?
4. Do you prefer downloading and have stopped buying CDs?
5. Do you THINK CDs are going to be outdated very soon (whether you love them or not)?

Hope I can get some ideas from all my friends from all over the world!

1. I still buy CD's of the artists that I would have bought before MP3s. I don't "experiment", anymore with one hit wonders and other things I might be curious to hear.
2. I bought 5 CDs of Kate Bush after falling in love with her.
3. I have never, nor will I ever, buy a download. Way too much free stuff to bother with wasting my money.
4. No. See above.
5. Everything gets outdated, eventually. Remember 8 track tapes & records?

So if everyone DOES buy CDs, why does the record industry claim CD sales are shrinking for them? Just a thought provoking question!!
