I didn't realise the initial question was solely directed at me Phil! LOL! I DO think you can be vague Phil - I'm sure to you, your questions seem apparent but since you didn't write Chris in your initial question and you posted on this board - I didn't necessarily conclude that I was required to answer
To make it in HK? hahahaha That path? I don't wear enough designer dresses and hang out in the right clubs for that! I'd need to sleep my way to the top or I'm not a pretty actress who wants to cross over either hahaha And has anyone ever HEARD Canto-pop? (Listen to Debbie rant on this one!) Unfortunately the average HK 'music' fan likes pretty boys/girls who can dance better than they can sing who put on incredible stage productions with special effects and dancers (sound familiar?). It's been noted that many of the top HK singers cannot actually sing (by fans & people in the music biz!)
I'm in the band business - I never want to be a solo artist - I like my family of musicians around me - I like being alternative, raunchy and in-yer-face. I'm part of a scene which strives to show that a night out CAN be simply going to a club and WATCHING a live band. I DO have the advantage that I write and sing in Cantonese too so there is no language barrier in that regards.
I am meeting up with a local producer guy next month to work on some tracks and I'm hoping he wont want to do any Canto-pop crap but hey if it gets people to our gigs......
