...Saturday night I stayed up till 6AM with the killer bluesman, James Harman, listening to stories. Turns out he's the harp player on all the ZZtop stuff that has harmonica. Also, more surprising to me, it turns out that on all the ZZtop albums from around the time of "Eliminator" til the present day, Billy Gibbons is the only musician. He programs all the parts of the other musicians, then does the guitar and vocals on top.
James Harman is one of the most amazing guys I ever met. He's a neverending source of hilarious stories about many of the old blues greats.
The coolest part for me, however, was after backing him up on the main stage at the NYS Rhythm 'n' Blues Fest, he said that if he gets more gigs around our area (which he will, since I'll get him some), he wants my band to back him up. Hope he wasn't just blowing sunshine up my ass.
